Lisbon Debating School

How about a whole training weekend right by the beach in beautiful Lisbon to review all the amazing people you’ve come to meet on internationals?

Let’s just fast forward to the 5th, 6th and 7th of May, when you’ll be enjoying world class debating training together with a whole competition for you to put everything you’ve come to learn in practice – all of this just when the first bits of summer start to show!

The sun will be up and the sky shall be blue! Won’t you come out and debate?

– 6 rounds of World Class workshops in at least 2 parallel rooms
– British Parliamentary tournament with 7-minute speeches
– 4 rounds with break to finals
– Caps of 70 School participants and 32 teams for the Tournament

Olivia Sundberg Diez

Olivia has been a Chief Adjudicator at over 25 tournaments across Europe, including recently the Lisbon Open. She is one of the DCAs for Tallinn EUDC 2017 and a CA for Scottish EUDC in 2018. As a speaker, she has won five tournaments and broken at over 30 – including breaking 6th at EUDC 2015, and as a judge in 2016. Olivia is committed to training and promoting debating across Europe, and especially in her home regions in Southern Europe and Scandinavia – so she can’t wait to return to Portugal for an amazing Lisbon Debating School!

Daan Welling

Daan is a former EUDC ESL Champion, WUDC ESL finalist and WUDC Open Quarterfinalist. He CAed over 20 competitions, and broke as a judge at three EUDCs. He’s been part of the faculty at DAPDI and DDWS in The Netherlands, and was Training Officer at Leiden Debating Union. He is a Programme Director at IDEA NL and a freelance public speaking trainer, and has delivered workshops across Europe.

Sharmila Parmanand

Sharmila was a Co-CA of Berlin Worlds 2013 and a two-time DCA of Australs and has been on the adjudication team of major tournaments around the world, including the Asian BP Championship, US National Debating Championship, North American Championship, Pan-American Debating Championship, and the Austral-Asian Women’s Debating Championship. She has judged the open grand finals of WUDC twice and the open semis thrice, the Oxford IV open final, and the grand final of Australs thrice. She is a three-time Asian debate champion, Australs grand finalist, and WUDC octofinalist. She has also served as a debate trainer or invited judge in over 30 countries.

Rebecca Irvine

Rebecca has been on over 10 CA teams including Vienna IV, SOAS Open and Tilbury House IV, and will be DCA of Tallinn EUDC in 2017. She has broken as a judge at WUDC three times and judged two EUDC finals alongside many other judge breaks, and is a finalist and top ten speaker of several European tournaments including Lund IV and Budapest Open

Martin Devenney

Martin broke 6th at Vienna EUDC.
He’s won Lisbon Open 2016, Helsinki Open 2015 and UKDC 2013.
He has approximately 25 speaker breaks, including Oxford IV 2014.
His CA-ships include Helsinki Open 2016, Cardiff 2015, Queen Mary London 2015, and London Pro-Am 2014.
Martin’s training experience includes training weekends in Finland, Bulgaria and Sweden.

So you will be staying literally on the beach!
